Island life on Gili Trawangan

Gili Trawangan Beach

Hey there! Sorry, it took me sooo long to get my next post ready…while you’re living on the road it’s just not easy to find time and wifi 😀

After a beautiful time in Bali we took a boat to Gili Trawangan. Gili T is a real party island, so if that isn’t for you, you should probably go to one of her sister islands: Gili Meno or Gili Air. They are much quieter! But as we wanted to go scuba diving, we choose Gili Trawangan and stayed with Manta Dive. The traditional hut we stayed in was soooo beautiful and relaxing and they have an amazing pool for their guests. As we went diving with them as well, we got the accommodation on a discount 🙂 My first dives were amazing and so exciting. I was really nervous in the beginning, but as soon as you are under water it’s just breathtaking. We saw a few really big turtles…the biggest I have ever seen! It’s just amazing to come that close to them, watching them swim calmly through the ocean <3 The reef here is truly amazing, you can see so many different fish and the water is very clean.

When we were not in the water, we explored the island. As there are no cars, a bike is the best way to get around. And as the island is pretty small, you only need about 40 minutes to go around. The streets are not the best though 😀 Sometimes you have to push the bike a bit. As soon as you leave the main road, the clubs are gone and some pretty (and expensive) hotels appear – it’s far more quiet here and you can really relax without the party people. Unfortunately Gili T doesn’t have that many beaches, but we found two really pretty ones. The sand is all white, the water turquoise and they even have swings and hammocks over the water – a dream come true 🙂
